Date Night: Brenner’s

We were on our way to CityCentre last night, when this little gem caught my eye. I’ve been wanting to dine at Brenner’s for some time now, and after last night, I can’t believe I’ve lived in Houston all my life and have never been. We didn’t have a reservation, but the hostess said she could seat us out back. When we headed outside, I was getting a tad bit worried since it was pretty chilly out. Nope, not sitting outside, just a stroll through their gorgeous gardens before making our way to the back room.

Mr. Brenner modeled the gardens after the scenery from his native Germany. The restaurant originally opened in 1936, and they served breakfast, sandwiches, fried chicken, and a steak on occasion. Once the Memorial Drive crowd caught on, it became a very popular West Houston restaurant.

We started off with the Texas Quail seared with bacon and finished with Oregon smokey blue cheese and Steen’s cane syrup glaze. Mmmm.

I had the fresh Gulf Snapper with jumbo lump crabmeat, and my handsome date ordered the Prime New York Strip. We also ordered their famous German potatoes and buttered broccolini on the side. It was a magnificent meal!

Fabulous date night! What’s your favorite date night restaurant?
