Tucked away on Memorial Drive in River Oaks, sits a peach-hued mansion with gorgeous gardens you could get lost in. Ima Hogg’s estate, known as Bayou Bend, is the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH) house museum for American decorative arts and paintings. The MFAH is always coming up with new events to draw people there.
Yuletide Thursdays is new this year. Priced a little higher with live music and serving snacks and Yuletide-themed spirits, this event is advertised for 18 & up.
While we couldn’t see the gardens because it was dark, we did get to tour the bottom floor of the house and experience how Americans celebrated the holidays from 1772-1863. Each room had live re-enactors who described the scene that was set to show a moment in time from an American winter celebration. The last room is filled with a gallery of Christmas trees to show how the tree decorations have evolved over time.
Yuletide Thursday was a great way to get into the holiday spirit! E and I both really enjoyed it. The tour doesn’t last too long and you’re pretty much free to walk around and enjoy the music, beautiful decorations, snacks and spirits! If you have little ones, be sure to bring them out on a Candlelight Friday when there’s plenty of entertainment to keep the little ones busy.
